Money laundering and terrorist financing are not only banking problems. Criminals need lawyers, accountants, estate agents, car and gold dealers, fintechs and payment companies to move and hide their money. Every one of those businesses is now expected to know its customers, spot red flags and report suspicion. Regulators expect staff to be trained, and they expect proof.
This course gives professionals a practical, international understanding of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT). It is built on the FATF Recommendations, the global standard that national AML laws in more than 200 jurisdictions follow, so it applies wherever you work. It is written for compliance officers, MLROs, relationship managers, onboarding teams, lawyers, accountants, real estate and dealer businesses, and fintech and payment staff. The first lesson of each module covers the basics for anyone new to the subject.
What you will learn
- How money laundering and terrorist financing work, and how the FATF standards shape national laws
- How to apply a risk-based approach to customers, products, channels and countries
- How to carry out customer due diligence, identify beneficial owners, and apply enhanced checks to PEPs and high-risk clients
- How to recognise red flags, report suspicious transactions, avoid tipping off, and screen for sanctions
- How to build and run an AML/CFT compliance programme that stands up to inspection
How the course works
There are five modules, each with four lessons and a short quiz. You need 70% on each quiz to complete the course and earn your certificate.
Important
This course explains international standards and good practice as at October 2026. Your obligations come from the AML law and regulations of the country where you operate, and from your regulator’s guidance. Always follow those, and your organisation’s own policies.
