Payroll is one of the few business processes that touches every employee, every month, and three regulators at once. A small error repeats itself every pay run, and penalties for late or wrong remittances add up quickly.
This course takes you from the building blocks of gross pay to a fully reconciled, compliant payroll in Zimbabwe. It is written for payroll officers, HR and finance staff, accountants, and business owners who run or review payroll. If you are new to payroll, the first lesson of each module covers the basics before moving on.
What you will learn
- How Zimbabwe’s payroll laws fit together: the Income Tax Act, the Labour Act, the NSSA Act, ZIMDEF and your sector’s collective bargaining agreement
- How to build gross pay correctly, including allowances, overtime, leave pay and benefits
- How to calculate PAYE, credits and the AIDS levy by hand, so you can check any payroll system
- How to handle NSSA, ZIMDEF, NEC levies and other deductions, and when each is due
- How to run month-end controls, prevent payroll fraud, process terminations, and close the year with the ITF16
How the course works
There are five modules, each with four lessons and a short quiz. You need 70% on each quiz to complete the course and earn your certificate.
A note on rates
Tax bands, NSSA ceilings and levy rates change, usually through the national budget or a statutory instrument. The figures in this course are the rates in force as at October 2026. They are clearly marked so you can update them. Always confirm the current tables on the ZIMRA and NSSA websites before running a live payroll.
About figures in this course
Rates, thresholds, time limits and penalties are shown as examples of the law as at 2026, not fixed rules, and are expected to change. Lessons focus on principles and procedures, worked examples are labelled as 2026 figures for illustration, and the figures are collected in one Course reference table at the end of the final lesson. Always confirm the current position through official channels such as ZIMRA, NSSA, ZIMDEF, your NEC, the Government Gazette or a registered tax or payroll practitioner.
