Every organisation has politics. Decisions are shaped not only by org charts and policies, but by relationships, reputations, alliances and influence. Professionals who ignore this often find their good work overlooked, their ideas blocked, or their careers stalled. Those who understand it, and act with integrity, get things done.
This course teaches ethical political skill: the ability to understand how influence really works in your organisation and to use that understanding to achieve good outcomes for your work, your team and your career, without manipulation. It is designed for professionals at any level, new managers, team leaders, project managers, and anyone who has felt frustrated by “politics” at work. Examples come from workplaces around the world, including Africa. The first lesson of each module covers the basics.
What you will learn
- Why workplace politics exists, and how formal and informal power work
- How to map stakeholders, build networks, and find allies and sponsors
- How to build credibility and influence ethically, including managing your boss
- How to handle difficult people and situations: credit-taking, gossip, blockers, cliques and conflict
- How to protect your reputation and career, and stay ethical under pressure
How the course works
There are five modules, each with four lessons and a short quiz. You need 70% on each quiz to complete the course and earn your certificate.
A note on approach
This course does not teach manipulation, deception or “winning at all costs”. It teaches you to read your environment accurately, build genuine relationships, and advocate effectively for good ideas and fair treatment. If you face harassment, discrimination or serious misconduct, use your organisation’s formal channels and the law, not political tactics.
