Every organisation takes risks to achieve its objectives. The difference between those that thrive and those that stumble is often not luck, but whether they understand their risks, decide deliberately which ones to take, and act early when things change. Boards, regulators, lenders and investors now expect structured risk management, and professionals who can lead it are in demand.
This course gives you a practical, international grounding in enterprise risk management, built around ISO 31000 (the international guidance standard for risk management, current edition 2018) and informed by other widely used frameworks such as COSO Enterprise Risk Management. It is designed for risk officers, managers, project leaders, compliance and audit staff, finance professionals, board members and anyone who has to identify, assess or manage risk. The first lesson of each module covers the basics.
What you will learn
- What risk is, why risk management matters, and the principles and framework that make it effective
- How to set the scope, context and risk criteria, including risk appetite
- How to identify, analyse and evaluate risks using practical techniques
- How to choose and implement risk treatments, and design controls and key risk indicators
- How to monitor, review, report and embed risk management into decisions, projects and culture
How the course works
There are five modules, each with four lessons and a short quiz. You need 70% on each quiz to complete the course and earn your certificate.
Important
This course explains the concepts of ISO 31000 and related frameworks in its own words. It does not reproduce the text of the standards, which are copyrighted. ISO 31000 provides guidelines and is not a standard organisations are certified against. Practitioners should obtain the official standards from ISO or their national standards body.
